After all the recent hype, this week I have been reading #GirlBoss – the story of Sophia Amoruso. The book is a first person tale of Sophia’s journey from dumpster diver, to high class CEO of a million dollar clothing company. She’s a combination of unconventionality and determination. In her early twenties she realised that this was not the life she wanted to be living, she managed to turn it all around and build her own path to success in the fashion world. In this book she shows you how to leave a negative past behind you, and learn from your mistakes. This is an inspirational book you could read all in one sunny afternoon.

Although this book is inspiring, it is not very educational. When I initially picked it up I assumed it would be full of tips and tricks to make it in the business world as a young female. This was not the case. The book is made up of a series of small events that Sofia had to overcome in order to be where she is now. In my opinion there is a little too much bragging about all the thieving and wrong things she has done in her life. I feel this book is aimed more towards those aged under 25 and already big fans.

I had heard so much about this book and a lot of it was positive. However, I don’t think that it really lived up to the hype. If you are looking for some tips and inspiration then I am sure that there are better books and sources of information out there that could provide that. However if you are looking for something light and somewhat entertaining, with a never-give-up attitude, then this is the book for you.
